Career Lounge Update - Summer 2009

Summer is the toughest time to be out there job-hunting when what we really want to be doing is hanging at the beach or drinking margueritas. And with vacations aplenty and people out of town, it can be hard to keep the momentum going. Taking a "job hunting vacation" is not a bad idea when you feel like the search is leaving you exhausted, depressed and beleaguered. You won't be at your best for meetings or interviews if you are feeling wiped out. The goal, of course, is to not let the break extend too long!
The Career Lounge has some exciting new plans for the fall, when we are all back in gear. For those of you who missed the Master Class with Madelyn Hammond last week, she is going to host for a Boot Camp Workshop for executives looking for change. Keep your eyes peeled for this schedule as she is one of the best and smartest Hollywood executives out there, and has a track record to prove it. But don’t expect to be coddled – she lives and breathes in the real world and when you are done with her session, you’ll be able to climb the Mt. Everest of job hunting.
Entertainment headhunter Corey Nathan has offered to conduct a workshop as well, as well as Career Advisor Marc Levine and Life Coach Julie Kinney. Stay tuned for their bios and for a schedule to be announced soon. These are smart folks with lots of experience and they are not to be missed!
For those folks who attended the Malibu Breakfast in June, thank you so much for your emails and calls. I have met with several of you already and there are more appointments to follow. It has been great hearing about your efforts and you have turned me on to some new opportunities I was unaware of as well! So keep the calls and emails coming. I have spoken to Candace Bowen about holding a Marketing Breakfast, Part 2 so that we can continue the conversation and talk about how to get film projects off the ground from a marketing and PR perspective.
Which leads me to our newest service – RESOURCES. In this section of the Career Lounge, we will be listing resources that you, as members of WIF, have to offer. Perhaps you have a music company with cues to license. Or you’re a proofreader, researcher, lighting expert, set designer. Send me the service you are offering at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and we will post them. Be sure to include either a phone number or email address where people can reach you.
That’s it for now…stay tuned and have a safe and happy summer!
Pam
