Kathryn Bigelow becomes first female to win DGA Best Director

What's On Your Plate? Makes Television Premiere

whats-on-your-plate-logo2009 WIF Foundation Film Finishing Fund recipient What's On Your Plate? makes its television premiere on Discovery's Planet Green on Saturday, February 6th at 10:00pm.  Grant winner Catherine Gund directed and produced this documentary about kids and food politics.  Over the course of one year, the film follows two eleven-year-old multi-racial city children as they explore their place in the food chain.

WIF Grant Recipient Hosts LA Premiere

girls-on-the-wall-cropped2008 WIF Film Finishing Fund recipient Heather Ross hosted her Los Angeles premiere of Girls On The Wall at the Egyptian Theater this month.  The evening began with live hip hop music and featured the all-girl “Antics” dance troupe.  WIF Foundation Chair, Sharon Lawrence attended with Betsy Pollock, Co-Chair of the WIF Foundation’s Film Finishing Fund, along with Cindy Holland of Netflix, sponsor of the 2009/2010 cycles of Fund grants.  The 2010 cycle for WIF’s Film Finishing Fund will start up this February, with applications available on the 15th.

Dispatch from Sundance 2010

grant_winners04_sno_angel-wThis year's Sundance panel was truly one of the best of the 2010 festival. Material so dense and dialogue so complex, you needed a interpreter to just keep up. And "rebel" and putting the "art first" the war cry. Education, poverty, social injustice were the headlines. Such massive erudition on this year's 2010 Sundance/WIF panel, one could hardly believe you were sitting there with a cup of coffee for free. The generosity of so many industry professionals that showed up in support with their name in dollars to keep the panel debate alive and vital, was most impressive and appreciated.

WIF International at the AFM

afm_webOn November 10, 2009, the WIF International (WIFI) committee hosted a panel at the American Film Market (AFM).  The topic was: The New Hollywood Movie Studio - New Power for the independent Filmmaker found in the world of new media and social networking.  The seminar identified and analyzed the resources available to independent filmmakers in the new media and social networking platforms.  They discussed how these resources can pinpoint trends to inspire story, help secure financing and create targeted marketing/public relation campaigns that include innovative branding strategies.
